Juan Daniel, my host during my recent trip to Cuba, told me of a 1959 Hillman (a British car) that his wife, Olivia, inherited from her mother and which now belongs to one of their children.
A local mechanic had replaced the entire running gear, engine, transmission, rear end, and etc, with that of a Russian made Lada (the most plentiful car model in Cuba) and had added power steering from a Korean Tico.
As perhaps you know there are very many old cars in Cuba, particular of USA manufacture. Cuba is actually quite renowned for its old Americans. Many of the old USA models run down the road belching huge clouds of diesel exhaust from the Eastern European engines they have been retrofitted with.
Every day the broad avenue fronting the capitol building in Havana is lined with vintage automobiles, mostly of USA manufacture.
